Product Lifecycle Management has different stages:
- BOL (Beginning of life): Involves new product development and design phase
- MOL (Middle of life): Involves product data management and collaboration with the suppliers
- EOL (End of life): Involves the final phase when the product has to go through the recycling or discontinued process.
The benefits of Product Lifecycle Management are:
- Reduces product unit costs
- Increases the sales revenue
- Enhances the product quality
- Lowers the prototype costs
- Fastens the release cycle of the products
- Gets more innovative products into the market
- Improves resource utilization
- Fewer design flaws
- Improves customer relationships
- Increases profitability
MIGRATION Vs UPGRADE
- Migration vs Upgrade Migration is the process of replicating applications from one architecture to another. For example, when a customer moves from ENOVIA VPM V5 to 3DEXPERIENCE platform, this can be termed as migration as the customer is migrating from one architecture to a completely different architecture. For example, if the user is moving from AIX to Windows, it can be termed as Migration.
- Upgrade means the process of replacing your existing application/architecture with a newer version of the same application/architecture. An upgrade is a process of moving from an older/ previous release to a higher release to take benefit of the enhancements done on the latest marketed release. Upgrade allows such move along with the legacy data. For example, when the customer moves from ENOVIA V6R2013x to 3DEXPERIENCE R2022x, it may be termed as an upgrade as the customer is migrating to a newer version of 3DEXPERIENCE platform. For example, if the customer is moving from Windows 7 SP1 to SP2, it can be termed as an Upgrade.
